Listed below are some tips to checking oil levels for all vehicles.

#1 First make sure your vehicle is on level ground for the correct fill level, and with parking brake on for safety!

#2 Never over fill any fluid compartment, this will cause over heating, oxidation of the oil and may result in leaks occurring! It is best to keep the oil level above the add and up to the full marks!

#3 For engine oil, it is best to check before starting when cold. After operation of vehicle make sure it has been turned off for 10 minutes! Some diesel engine manufactures allow the engine oil to be checked when running, they will usually have a hot and cold measurement on the gauge!

#4 For automatic transmissions with level gauges, they will have an add and full mark and or a hot and cold mark. If the unit is cold it should be on the add or cold mark and if it is at operating temperature it should be on or slightly below the full or hot marks. Be sure to set your parking brake and check running in neutral.

#5 For differentials check your owners manual or the AMSOIL  application guide to find the proper fill level! Most levels are 1/4 to 3/4 of an inch below the plug level.
